Discuss a pilot

Support the night. Look out for each other.

Velami helps clubs, festivals, promoters and student organisations give guests a quick test to check their drink for spiking, with clear instructions and honest limits.

velami comes from the French veiller, to watch over, and ami, friend.

What we bring to a night out

A small test, instructions guests understand in their own language, and honesty about what it can and cannot do.

A quick drink check

One drop on a small test, a result in about 30 seconds. Guests can use it themselves, or ask staff.

Made for your drink

For people who want to enjoy a night out and check that nobody spiked their drink. It is not a kit for testing drugs.

Honest limits

We say what the test can and cannot detect, and what evidence exists. We never say a drink is safe.

Care is part of a good night

The best nights run on trust between friends, guests and staff. A visible, easy check tells guests that the people running the night are paying attention.

  • Agree with your friends to check in with each other.
  • Keep an eye on your drink. Don't accept drinks you didn't see poured.
  • If you or a friend suddenly feel very drunk, confused or unwell, stop drinking and ask staff for help straight away.
Never wait for a test to get help. How someone feels matters more than any test result. If someone is unwell, call emergency services: 112 anywhere in the EU.

The test we are starting with

Nothing is for sale yet. Each format can screen for different substances and has different evidence, so we describe each one on its own.

Exists todayUnder evaluation

Phone sticker

A round sticker, about 30 mm, that sits on the back of a phone. One zone reacts to GHB, the other to a panel of other listed drugs. One drop of drink, single use.

From the manufacturer's public catalogue. We are confirming the exact model and its evidence with the manufacturer before any sale.

Other formats from the same manufacturer Exist today

  • Test card

    Venue use

A flat card with test spots that can sit at the bar for guests to use.

  • Wristband

    Guest use

Test spots on a band worn at the event. Could pair with wristband entry.

  • Dipstick

    Venue use

A strip for testing at a stand in the venue. Which substances it covers depends on the model.

Ideas in development Not available · not validated

  • Nail sticker

    In development

A small sticker worn on a fingernail. Not available. Wear safety, adhesion and coverage are open questions.

  • Detecting straw

    Idea only

No manufacturer version exists yet. It would need food-contact and performance evidence before any use.

What it screens for, and how sure we are

The manufacturer lists 18 substances or groups for its broad drink-test range. That is the manufacturer's claim, not independent proof, and which list applies to the exact sticker we would sell is still being confirmed. The "other drugs" zone does not tell you which substance reacted.

Detection levels stated by the manufacturer: GHB 4 mg/mL, other listed drugs 1 mg/mL. Sources: the manufacturer's catalogue and its own in-house study on prepared drinks (cola, wine, gin, soda water, beer, whisky). We are confirming which model that study covers.

Colour change

Possible drug detected

Don't drink it. Keep the drink, tell staff and stay with a friend. A colour change is a warning sign, not proof.

No colour change

Nothing detected by this test

This does not mean the drink is safe. The substance may not be on the list, or may be below the detection level.

Unclear

Can't read it?

Low light, coloured drinks or too little liquid make results hard to read. Treat it with caution and ask staff.

Known limits

  • Not every drug. Anything not on the list may be missed. The current sticker does not detect amphetamine (AMP), which is different from methamphetamine (MET).
  • Not alcohol. It cannot tell you if extra alcohol was added.
  • Detection level. Small amounts below the stated level can be missed.
  • Drink types. The manufacturer warns that blue or red drinks may give a false reading, and that drinks with milk, cream or oil should not be tested.
  • One test, one drink. Single use. It checks one drop at one moment.
  • Not a lab test. A screening test is not a laboratory or forensic analysis.

Questions partners ask

Does it detect all drugs?

No test does. The manufacturer lists 18 substances or groups for this range. It does not detect amphetamine or added alcohol, and anything not on the list may be missed.

Is this for testing drugs before taking them?

No. Velami is for people who don't take drugs and want to check that their own drink hasn't been spiked. It is not designed or sold for testing drugs.

If nothing changes colour, is the drink safe?

No. It only means this test did not detect a listed substance above its detection level. Keep watching your drink and your friends, and get help if anyone feels unwell.

Has it been independently tested?

Not yet. Current evidence is the manufacturer's own study. Before launch, we plan to have a qualified laboratory test the exact product we will sell.

Are nail stickers or straws available?

No. The nail sticker is in development at the manufacturer, and no detecting straw exists yet. We will only offer them with proper evidence.

Is the product certified or compliant?

We don't make that claim. Before any sale, we will check the exact model against EU product-safety rules (the General Product Safety Regulation), including labels and instructions in local languages.

When can we get stock?

Delivery dates come in a written quote once supply is agreed. We are not taking orders or payments yet.

Which languages do you cover?

English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, German, Dutch and Italian. Every language is checked in several independent steps, including a blind back-translation, before it goes live.

Who runs Velami? Are you a charity?

Velami is a trading name of FS MULTI SERVICES SAS, a French company based in Clermont-Ferrand. It is a private business at founding stage, not a charity or NGO. Founders: brothers Suleiman (Suma) Hussein in Portugal and Ferass Hussein in Clermont-Ferrand.
